The Pivot Year

Life has a way of guiding us into pivotal moments—those in-between spaces where we’re no longer who we were but not quite who we want to become yet.

I know from my own experience that these transitions can feel overwhelming—it’s like standing on a bridge and not being able to see clearly what’s waiting on the other side. I’m in this stage myself right now. With 2025 just around the corner, this is the year where those final moves and changes will fall into place. And honestly, it feels no less daunting than the other times I’ve found myself in this state.

But here’s the thing to remember: the person you’re becoming is already within you. You aren’t discovering something entirely new; you’re gently reminding yourself to act on what your heart already knows is right for you.

What if it all went right? What if the path you're afraid to take is the one that leads you exactly where you’re meant to be?

One practice I’ve always found grounding during these times is journaling. It’s something I try to stick to as consistently as I can, though I’ll admit I’m more dedicated to it at some points in life than others. Either way, I always find myself coming back to it when I’m in a state of flux or change. Taking time each morning to sit with my thoughts, to write without judgment, and to reflect feels like an anchor—a way of reconnecting with myself when everything around me feels uncertain.

I make a point of never rereading my journal notes—I keep them, but I don’t revisit them. For a long time, I was scared of writing thoughts down, as a child, my diaries were never private or safe spaces; many times they were read and used against me by my mother. It gave me a deep fear of being totally open and vulnerable on a page. I overcame this fear by practicing free writing—scribbling down whatever came to mind without overthinking it. It didn’t need to make sense or form a coherent sentence; it was just about letting the words flow freely without judgment. Journaling, for me, became a way of uncovering hidden truths, releasing what no longer serves me, and gently guiding me back to the person I’m becoming.

Journaling can be a daily ritual to lean on, no matter where you are in life. It’s a simple yet powerful tool for navigating those in-between spaces, helping you find clarity and giving you the opportunity to move forward—one step, one word at a time.

Reframing the Pivot
A pivot can feel daunting—uncertain, shaky, even a bit terrifying. But what if we looked at it differently? What if we saw it as a space full of possibility? These moments of transition are an opportunity to reset, realign, and rewrite the story you’ve been living. They’re a chance to let go of old habits and beliefs that no longer serve you and step into a version of yourself that feels real, alive, and aligned with what you truly want.

The beauty of a pivot is that it’s a choice. It’s that moment when you say, “I’m ready to let go of what isn’t working and move toward the person I know I can be.” The path might not always be clear, but it reveals itself step by step—if you’re willing to take that first step.

Becoming Who You’re Meant to Be
The person you’re becoming has always been within you. It’s the version of yourself that dreams bigger, trusts deeper, and feels braver. It’s the part of you that’s ready to stop settling for less and start embracing more—more honesty, more fulfilment, more purpose.

The journey might feel messy at times, but every small step you take is bringing you closer to the life that’s waiting for you.

Life’s transitions can feel uncertain and overwhelming, but they’re also filled with possibility. It’s in these moments that we have the chance to rewrite our stories, let go of what no longer serves us, and step into the version of ourselves we’ve always known we could be.

If you’re navigating one of these pivotal moments and feel unsure of the next step, know that you don’t have to do it alone. Integrative talking therapy with me can help you explore these changes with compassion and clarity. Together, we can create a space to uncover what’s holding you back, reconnect with your inner wisdom, and move toward the life you’re ready to embrace.

The person you’re becoming is already within you—ready, waiting, and so deserving of the life ahead. Are you ready to meet them?
